Constitution of the Zion Digital Link
Article I: Name
The name of this organization shall be the Zion Digital Link (ZDL), licensed under the FCC club callsign of W7ZDL.
Article II: Purpose
The purpose of the ZDL is to:
- Foster and promote the art of amateur radio communication.
- Encourage and provide training for new amateur radio operators.
- Support and engage in emergency communication services.
- Collaborate and maintain respectful relations with other ham radio clubs and groups.
- Serve the community of St. George and the surrounding areas through communication support and public service.
Article III: Membership
- Membership in the ZDL is open to all individuals interested in amateur radio.
- Members must abide by the rules and regulations set forth by the ZDL and the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).
- Members are encouraged to participate in club activities and meetings.
Article IV: Officers
- The officers of the ZDL shall consist of a President, Vice-President, Secretary, and Treasurer.
- Officers shall be elected annually by the membership.
- Duties of the officers are as follows:
- President: Presides over meetings, represents the club in official matters, and ensures the club's activities align with its purpose. The current president is Keith, NF7B.
- Vice-President: Assists the President and assumes their duties in their absence.
- Secretary: Keeps meeting minutes, manages club records, and handles correspondence.
- Treasurer: Manages the club’s finances, maintains financial records, and provides financial reports.
Article V: Meetings
- Regular meetings shall be held monthly at a time and place determined by the membership.
- Special meetings may be called by the President or upon request of at least five members.
- A quorum for conducting business at any meeting shall consist of at least one-third of the active members.
Article VI: Committees
- Committees may be established as needed by the President to carry out specific tasks or projects.
- Committee members shall be appointed by the President.
Article VII: Amendments
- Amendments to this constitution may be proposed by any member in good standing.
- Proposed amendments must be submitted in writing to the Secretary.
- Amendments shall be voted on at the next regular meeting and require a two-thirds majority of the members present for adoption.
Article VIII: Dissolution
- In the event of dissolution of the ZDL, any remaining assets shall be distributed to a non-profit organization with similar purposes, as determined by the membership.
- No part of the assets shall benefit any individual member or officer of the ZDL.
Article IX: Ratification
This constitution shall become effective upon approval by a two-thirds majority vote of the members present at a regular meeting.
Bylaws and Policies
The Zion Digital Link adheres to the following bylaws and policies regarding FCC rules on identification, station licensing, and other relevant topics.
Identification
All members must identify their station by transmitting their call sign at the end of each communication and at least every ten minutes during a communication, as required by the FCC.
Station Licensing
The club station license for Zion Digital Link (W7ZDL) must be renewed every ten years. The station must operate within the parameters set forth by the FCC, including power limits, frequency allocations, and emission types.
Operating Procedures
Members must adhere to proper operating procedures to ensure clear and effective communication. This includes avoiding unnecessary transmissions, respecting other operators, and using standard phonetic alphabets.
Emergency Communication
In the event of an emergency, members should be prepared to assist with emergency communications. The club will conduct regular training exercises to ensure members are ready to respond effectively.
Respect for Other Clubs
Zion Digital Link maintains respectful relations with other ham radio clubs and groups. Members are encouraged to participate in joint activities and collaborate on projects to promote the amateur radio hobby.
